Do Six Month Braces Work?
The key to successful orthodontic treatment is knowing what teeth need to be moved, where the teeth need to be moved, and how teeth move. For dental patients who have a good bite in the back and have only mild spacing, crowding, or alignment problems with their front teeth, six month braces can be the perfect solution.
Six Month Braces Offered in Frisco by Dr Greenberg at RxSmile Frisco Orthodontics With that being said, it is of great importance to undergo any orthodontic treatment with an experienced, board-certified orthodontist who has been trained to handle all types of malocclusion (misalignment of teeth). A patient with an undetected bite problem who receives dental braces on only the front teeth can actually end up with more bite problems than he/she started with before treatment.
This is why it is essential to have a complete orthodontic evaluation before undergoing any application of braces, and why using a trained orthodontist to do it is your best choice. At RxSmile, we are specifically trained to evaluate and diagnose bite problems, determine the best course of orthodontic treatment, and apply it. Orthodontics is what we do all day, every day! While it is wonderful when we can give fast results, accuracy in helping our patients achieve the beautiful smiles they desire is our primary goal, first and foremost.
At RxSmile, we offer complimentary orthodontic evaluations to determine if six month braces are a suitable option for the individual patient’s needs. If a patient’s front teeth can be aligned on their own without affecting occlusion, we will absolutely do it in the shortest possible amount of time.
The Six Month Braces Process
If it is determined that you can benefit from six month braces, a treatment plan will be designed specifically for you. You may choose traditional dental braces or clear (ceramic) dental braces that blend in with the teeth. The dental brackets will be placed on the front teeth and, depending on the amount of correction needed, will typically remain on these teeth for approximately six months. Clear dental aligners may also be an option as a six month treatment for some patients. More severe front teeth alignment may require 9 months to complete.
You will need to have adjustments made to your short-term braces every few weeks. Your orthodontist will monitor your progress carefully at each appointment to ensure that your bite is not affected and your front teeth are moving appropriately and in good relationship with the back teeth. As with all types of dental braces, you will need to wear a retainer for a time after short-term orthodontics to ensure that your teeth do not move back into their original position.
Benefits of six month braces include:
- Short treatment time
- Less visible options available
- Predictable outcome when under orthodontist’ care
- Less expensive than full braces or veneers
- Straight front teeth results in a beautiful smile
At RxSmile Orthodontics, we work closely with primary care dentists for our patients who choose to also get veneers after short-term orthodontics, such as in cases of tooth-size discrepancy.
