RxSmile is shielding you from infections
Something’s going around...
North Texas has seen a surge in flu, COVID-19, RSV and even norovirus cases throughout the state! The headlines these past few days tell the story:
“Flu surge shuts down schools in North Texas”
“North Texas medical official urges caution amid insures in flu cases”
“36 US states have ‘high’ or ‘very high’ flu activity”
“Sharp increase in flu and RSV in Texas”
“Texas flu positivity rate surges above national trend”
Rest assured, RxSmile Frisco Orthodontics takes infection control seriously, not only during the peak months of cold and flu season, but year-round! We believe you can never be ‘too safe or too clean’! We continue to partner with the professionals at MediClean & Shield (MCS) who use an EPA Approved Hospital-Grade Disinfectant that is odor free, skin contact safe, non-toxic, non-flammable, non-corrosive, non-hazardous; safe to use on electronics; environmentally neutral and eco-friendly!

Infection Control meets Technology!
Generally speaking, the best infection prevention is to avoid anyone with symptoms of an upper respiratory infection, like coughing, sneezing, and/or running a fever. However because flu viruses live on surfaces, and we touch numerous surfaces as we go through our day, it’s important to remember basic hygiene practices:
- Wash hands frequently.
- Use hand sanitizer (keep personal-sized ones in your purse or car for quick access).
- Clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces (counters, light switches, phone, computer keyboard, mouse, door knobs/handles to name a few).
Typical infection control in an office setting is a manual process of using chemical sprays, wipes, rags, mops, etc. The problem with this is that coverage is limited to the general area of an object that the sprayer is pointed at, or the surface area directly wiped. What happens when you use a rag but miss a spot? While these are certainly best practices, we take cleaning a step further by using cutting-edge technology!
The latest technology using electrostatic sprayers means that droplets are “charged” and attracted to surfaces, covering all sides of an object, not just the spot it was directed at. This allows the spray to get underneath and behind places, giving 360° of coverage and protection. Once dried, the spray-on treatment permanently bonds to surfaces, both porous and non-porous, and will last for months.
The electrostatic sprayer method kills up to 99.999% of pathogens. It also kills the COVID-19 virus.
How do you know if a surface is REALLY clean? You TEST it!
MCS backs their results with rapid microbial and ATP testing data. Their proprietary 6 step process confirms that all our office environment surfaces remain anti-microbial and anti-viral for up to 3 months! This gives us peace of mind that everyone who comes into our office is safe!

MCS routinely swabs and tests our office for both ATP and microbial activity:
- ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) is an energy molecule found in all plant, animal and microbial cells… basically the food for microorganisms to grow.
- Microbial activity refers to microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, and fungi that can infect humans and pets. Since these microorganisms need a food source to live and grow, they feed off of ATP.
Spot testing surfaces ensures that our office remains free of these harmful microorganisms, and that our office environment won’t be a breeding ground for future microbial growth.
MCS uses the PermaSafe system, a 2-step disinfection and protection process using two key products: PermaSafe CLEAN (Step 1) and PermaSafe SHIELD (Step 2) applied with an electrostatic sprayer.
PermaSafe CLEAN is the patented multi-purpose, multi-surface, broad-spectrum, germicidal cleaner, food contact surface sanitizer, and hospital disinfectant that deep cleans and decontaminates surfaces to ensure the subsequent application of PermaSafe SHIELD achieves an effective, durable protective bond. It’s also EPA and NSF Registered, FDA Approved and CDC Compliant.
PermaSafe SHIELD is the patented antimicrobial agent that molecularly bonds to the surface to which it is applied, effectively becoming a permanent part of that surface. As the coating dries, millions of microscopic antimicrobial “spike-like” appliances form and extend from the surface. These “spikes” are actually long ISO polymer chains of positively charged atoms that represent a deadly dual threat to microbes.
Once cured, the antimicrobial coating forms an invisible protective shield that inhibits the growth of microorganisms and helps prevent the growth and spread of bacteria. Because the cell walls of harmful microorganisms are negatively charged, they are electrostatically drawn towards and pulled onto the positively charged spikes and destroyed, as the spikes both impale and electrostatically “shock” the microbes.
Sample Summary Test Results
An MCS Infection Prevention Specialist will conduct multiple tests in key locations to determine the amount of active organic matter through industry-standard ATP and/or microbial testing procedures. The pre-spraying results will be documented and recorded as a baseline comparison. After the 2-step disinfection and protection treatment process is complete, a post-spraying test will be conducted on the same surfaces to verify the results of the cleaning/disinfecting process. (Below are sample pre- and post-test results provided by MCS to show data measurements. They do not reflect results specifically taken from our office.)
