We are a Digital Impression Practice
If the iTero Element intraoral scanner went up against traditional molds, there would be no question who the winner was. The iTero Element intraoral scanner easily usurps traditional molds. For patients, it makes their orthodontic experience 100 times better. In a study conducted by the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Bern, 100% of the patients preferred the workflow associated with digital scanners like the iTero Element Intraoral Scanner. The School of Dental Medicine at the University of Bern was not the only one to do such a study. A multitude of studies have found that patients prefer the digital workflow associated with intraoral scanners.
Intraoral scanners were designed to be more efficient and replace mold trays. They take a scan of your teeth and digitally create a 3D mold. This is only the first step of the process. There are a multitude of brands, all of which have different amenities. The iTero Element intraoral scanner was designed to “deliver speed, reliability, intuitive operations, and outstanding visualization capabilities.” The iTero Element intraoral scanner is unique in that it does what other scanners and traditional teeth mold trays do, but faster and way better. It is a whopping 20 times faster than previous models and is capable of capturing 6,000 frames per second. The advantages of the iTero Element intraoral scanner are astronomical. It makes you wonder why the dated, less accurate mold trays are still used.
Advantages
- Speed
The iTero Element intraoral scanner is scary fast. It does not seem possible for it to achieve all that it does in the very short amount of time it takes to scan your mouth. The iTero Element intraoral scanner has a capture time of only 40 to 50 milliseconds. It is designed to capture 20 scans per second. That is crazy. Traditional molds have nothing on the iTero Element intraoral scanner. As previously mentioned, the iTero Element intraoral scanner boasts being 20 times faster and having the capability to capture 6,000 frames per second.
- Certified Connectability Workflows
The iTero Element intraoral scanner uses stereolithography (STL), also referred to as “Standard Triangle Language” or “Standard Tesselation Language,” 3D files of your mouth that can be used to create molds or Invisalign. Using STL files when creating the imaging allows for the scans to be used for a multitude of things. The iTero Element intraoral scanner is compatible with the Invisalign system, the exclusive Invisalign Outcome Simulator, OrthoCAD®, and OrthoCAD Viewer. The iTero Element intraoral scanner is not limited to being used solely in conjunction with products made by the same company. The scans can be used by any authorized third party that accepts STL files.
- Detailed and Accurate
Intraoral scanners are typically high precision. The iTero Element intraoral scanner was designed to be more accurate and precise than all other scanners and traditional mold making methods. Due to the high volume of digital images taken by the iTero Element intraoral scanner, the digital scans and your mouth are identical. Even when there are mistakes or gaps, intraoral scanners allow for them to patched up quickly and easily. Instead of possibly having to make multiple molds, the iTero Element intraoral scanner makes it easy to get a mold of your mouth with no hassle. After all, who wants an uncomfortable mold tray in their mouth for an extended period of time?
- Real-Time Visualizations
Not all intraoral scanners have real-time visualizations, but the iTero Element intraoral scanner does. This allows for your orthodontist to see if it missed any spots and gives them a digital mold instantly. Due to the iTero Element intraoral scan being 3-D and having a touch screen, Dr. Greenberg can fully examine all parts of your teeth digitally. This is outstanding. This means, instead of being uncomfortable because he has to spend what seems like forever examining your teeth, it can all be seen on a screen immediately. Having a digital model instantaneously is oddly satisfying. With it being on a screen, not only can Dr. Greenberg see it, but you can see it too!
- Convenient
The iTero Element intraoral scanner is moveable and takes up little space. Instead of having cabinets full of molds that could be confused, it is all digital, which means it will never be lost.
- Color Scanning
The iTero Element intraoral scanner is different than others in that it has color scanning available. This makes the scan infinitely more precise; the contours of a patient’s teeth and gums stand out much more. The vibrant colors allow for operators to clearly distinguish between gingival and dental tissue on the screen. Basically, iTero has made their intraoral scanner foolproof.
- Comfortability
Intraoral scans are commonly seen as more comfortable than traditional mold making methods. There is something so incredibly off-putting about the flavored mold trays. Intraoral scans are simple, easy, and you can see what’s going on instantly. The iTero Element intraoral scanner is 40% lighter and smaller than previous models. This makes it more comfortable than ever before.
Disadvantages
- None?
It is odd to say that something has no disadvantages, but the iTero Element intraoral scanner really doesn’t have any. Intraoral scanners are nothing but positive for patients. When it comes to intraoral scanners, the iTero Element intraoral scanner far outranks others. Not only is it more comfortable for patients, but it does everything better and faster.
Dr. Greenberg and his team have been extensively trained using the iTero Element intraoral scanner. When you come in for a complimentary consultation, one of our technicians will use the iTero scanner to take a 3D digital scan of your mouth/teeth. Because they can see the scan in real-time, they can easily tell if they need to go back over any areas. Typically, a full mouth scan takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of teeth being scanned. To ensure the machine remains sterile and free from contamination, after each scan, the shield protecting the scanner is removed and discarded. Dr. Greenberg will review the 3D models with you and be able to make real-time adjustments to reveal how your teeth will look after treatment. What occurs next depends on your treatment. Likely, the STL file of your scans will be sent to a lab to be 3D printed. This scanning technology is used for patients needing Invisalign® clear aligners, passive self-ligating braces, and/or oral sleep devices. The sheer efficiency of the iTero Element intraoral scanner is amazing. Never has orthodontics been so streamlined!
